Operation Vala Umgodi remains committed in the fight against illicit mining in the Namakwa District. The multi-disciplinary team, during a disruptive operation, apprehended eight suspects in Kleinzee on Sunday, 09 February 2025.
This arrest follows after the pro-active and combatting teams executed intelligence led information at the identified hotspots.
The eight suspects, ages 28 and 54, were subsequently arrested for illegal mining, trespassing, and for being in the country illegally.
Equipment believed to be used in the commission of illicit mining was confiscated.
Police will continue with their concerted efforts to curb crimes related to illegal mining and urge members of the public to assist with any information regarding illicit mining and other related crimes.
