As part of ongoing efforts to flush out criminality in communities which experience high crime volumes, police members arrested three suspects in possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition as well as the possession of drugs in isolated incidents.
Public Order Police members responded to a call for back up following a shooting incident on Saturday 31 August 2024. Upon arrival at an identified house at Houghton Place in Eersterivier at around 20:30 they conducted a search of the house and the occupants which led to the confiscation of a 9mm pistol with ammunition and drugs. They have arrested a 49-year-old man for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition and the possession of drugs.
Meanwhile Police members of Delft Crime Prevention Unit conducted stop and search operations on Monday 02 September 2024, when at about 23:00, the members noticed a suspicious motor vehicle at a nearby fuel station. They approached the vehicle, searched the occupants and recovered a 9mm Glock pistol with ammunition. The members arrested two suspects for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Blue Downs and Bellville Magistrates’ courts on the mentioned charges.
