The police in Seshego outside Polokwane have, last night, arrested two minors aged 15 in connection with the alleged murder of an 11-year-old boy whose body was found at ga-Makweya village yesterday, Tuesday 23 March 2021.
The young boy from the adjacent village of ga-Mamadila, was apparently lured by the suspects from the same village to go to a soccer match at the neighboring Makweya village on Monday 22 March 2021.
When the victim did not return home that evening, the family reported him missing at Seshego police station the following day on Tuesday, 23 March 2021, and a search operation was immediately embarked upon. The initial investigations led the police to the two minors who were found in possession of the cellphone that belonged to the deceased.
The further probe led the police to the spot where the body of the 11-year-old boy was found. The deceased was identified as Tibane Mahanyele.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Major General Samuel Manala has expressed shock and disbelieve, especially considering the ages of both suspects.
“We appeal to members of the community in this area to remain calm as police investigations are unfolding”, concluded General Manala.
The suspects will be subjected to assessments by the probation officer. They are expected to appear in Seshego Magistrate’s Court soon.
