In an intelligence-driven operation, the South African Police Service (SAPS) foiled a planned robbery, resulting in two suspects being fatally wounded and five arrested.
The operation, which took place on Tuesday, 01 April 2025, was a collaborative effort between the SAPS Counter Intelligence Investigation Head Office, DPCI Gauteng Multi-Disciplinary Tracking Team, SAPS Gauteng TRT, SAPS Anti-Gang Unit, Gauteng Traffic Police Airwing, CAP Specialised Operations, Tracker Connect, and Gemini Global Defense.
The police had gathered information indicating that the suspects were planning to commit a robbery. When they spotted the suspects’ vehicle, they attempted to stop it, leading to a shootout. The incident occurred at Elias Motsoaledi road in Dobsonville, where the two suspects were fatally wounded, and Chris Hani road in Pimville, where the five suspects were arrested.
The police recovered three firearms and ammunition, as well as a stolen Mercedes Benz, which was reported stolen at Moffatview. Additionally, a Quantum and Suzuki were impounded.
Meanwhile, in another separate incident, four suspected courier vehicle robbers were shot dead and one arrested at Jabulani during a shootout with the police. It is reported that the suspects had a courier robbery in Soweto. The robbed items were recovered in the suspects’ vehicles and four unlicensed firearms.
The SAPS management in Gauteng commends the bravery and swift response by this multidisciplinary team which led to the arrests. The police will continue to work tirelessly to address serious and violent crimes.
