Patrols by Flagstaff Crime Prevention members in the central business district on Monday, 31 March 2025 at about 02:00 led to a shootout between police and suspects who had burgled into business premises and made off with an undisclosed amount of money, two male suspects aged 36 and 45 were fatally wounded.
Police were alerted by a security guard about suspects who had just committed a business robbery, the security guard’s cellphone was also stolen by the suspects. Upon seeing the police, the suspects shot at them and police retaliated which led to two male suspects fatally wounded and two firearms, an AK 47 with ammunition and a 9mm pistol with two loaded magazines were recovered. Other suspects managed to evade arrest as they were about five in number.
Amongst the recovered items from the deceased were an AK 47 automatic rifle, 9mm pistol, grinder, crow bar, balaclava, gloves and an undisclosed amount of money.
OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana applauded the members for their vigilance and tactical readiness in dealing with such life threatening situations so well as their safety comes first in such situations.
