Manhunt launched for suspect after killing of elder brother

The Police in Mpumalanga have launched a manhunt for a suspect who allegedly killed his elder brother, Mphondzo Mkhatshwa (65), in Magogeni near Malelane on 01 April 2025 at approximately 17h55.

According to a report, Police received information about a man who had been stabbed at Magogeni Mhlaba Royal Kraal. Emergency Medical Services and the Police were summoned to the scene, where they found the victim lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds.

Preliminary investigations suggest that there was an argument between the siblings and the victim was stabbed. The suspect is said to have fled the scene thereafter.

A case of murder has been opened at Schoemansdal Police Station. Police are currently in search of Mr Elvis Mkhatshwa (44), who is believed to be valuable in the ongoing investigation and he can be of great assistance to the investigators. Mkhatshwa is urged to immediately contact the Police.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is also urged to call Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or send information via the MySAPS App. Alternatively, members of the public can call Detective Captain James Khoza at 076 412 3745. All information received will be treated as confidential, and callers may opt to remain anonymous.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has expressed deep concern over the incident. “People should seek peaceful ways to resolve disputes instead of resorting to violence,” said the General.
