The Limpopo Provincial Safer Easter Season Operation was launched by the MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Ms Violet Mathye together with the Provincial Commissioner of Police, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.
The event was executed at Riba Cross, Tubatse policing area on Friday 11 April 2025, and has yielded significant arrests of two suspects for Contravention of Illegal Immigration Act and another two for dealing in dagga and drugs.
The operation was jointly conducted by the members of the South African Police Service together with Limpopo Traffic Police.
In addition, 63 traffic summons were issued, eight mini busses impounded and one motor vehicle discontinued.
Furthermore, additional fines for Contravention of Road Traffic Act were issued and 87 vehicles and 199 people were searched.
The apprehended suspects are expected to appear before the Praktiseer Magistrate court soon facing various offences.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe stressed that the police are resolutely dedicated to bolstering road safety measures. They will be enhancing visibility through regular vehicle checkpoints and enforce strict adherence to traffic rules and regulations. She also added that Operation Shanela will be intensified to ensure that the citizens are and feel safe while dealing with all elements of crime, particularly gender-based violence to ensure the safety of women and children.
Meanwhile, the MEC urged all categories of road users to work together in order to reduce fatalities on Limpopo roads and warned motorists that those who conduct themselves with impunity will be severely punished.
The event also saw the multi-disciplinary parade being conducted at Riba cross to demonstrate operational readiness as well as a show of strength and culminated into a formal programme at Nthame primary school.
