In ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining, the Northern Cape multi-disciplinary teams executing Operation Vala Umgodi in the Namakwa District have arrested five suspects for illegal mining on Thursday, 24 April 2025.
The team followed up on information regarding a group of people allegedly engaged in illegal mining activities in Buffelsrivier, Komaggas.
The identified location was approached and the suspects aged between 33 and 47, were apprehended while engaging in illicit mining activities.
An unpolished diamond, several mining implements, including bags containing suspected diamond-bearing gravel and sieves were confiscated.
The arrested suspects are scheduled to appear in Court soon.
