Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) despatched a team of Officers to a mall in the Verulam CBD – Kwazulu Natal this afternoon after several shoppers reported a possible Armed Robbery that was imminent.
Reaction Officers converged on the mall situated between Ireland & Wick Street at 12:15 after several shoppers & store employees spotted a firearm hidden behind a board on a staircase ( picture 1/4). It was believed that armed robbers were about to strike as the store neared weekend closing times.
Reaction Officers secured entrances & exit to the building and activated the RUSA Helicopter to provide air support. All additional support members were canceled when a local security guard from a private company informed Reaction Officers that he had concealed the replica firearm behind the board when he reported on duty to guard a commercial building.
This information was later verified.
