At approximately 18:34, KZN VIP Control Centre received a report of an attempted hijacking at the corner of R102 & JG Champion Drive. A short time after the incident, a motorist contacted the control centre, stating she had managed to drive to a nearby service station for safety.
A female driver, traveling on the R102 towards the Palmview intersection, was approached by a lone male suspect.
The suspect, described as a Black male wearing a black-and-white striped shirt, tan shorts, and a black hooded jacket, emerged from nearby bushes.
Armed with a handgun, the suspect attempted to hijack victim, who was driving a white VW Caddy, but failed and quickly fled back into the bushes.
KZN VIP Response Officers, along with tactical units, were immediately dispatched to the area. Upon arrival, they met with the victim, who provided the above description of the suspect. A thorough search of the area was conducted, but no signs of the suspect were found.
