Police members, determined to create a safer environment for the community, recovered two firearms and ammunition as well as drugs which resulted in the arrest of three suspects.
Steenberg police conducted random stop and search operations in their precinct on Sunday, 16 March 2025 when they pounced on an address in Elsie Menning Street in Retreat. Upon entering the premises they accosted a person inside which they searched. After interrogation, the man led the police members into the house where the search continued leading to the recovery of a 7,65 pistol with ammunition as well as an imitation firearm hidden in the ceiling of the house. They detained the adult male for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition as well as the possession of an imitation firearm.
In an unrelated intervention the police members were busy with routine patrols on Monday 17 March when they saw a suspicious man who fled when he saw the patrol vehicle. The police members apprehended the man in Epsten Road in Lavender Hill, searched him and confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition found in his possession. They detained the 39-year-old man for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Meanwhile members of Grabouw Public Order Police tactically approached an address in Protea Heights in Villiersdorp on Monday 17 March 2025, entered the premises to the surprise of the occupants and ensued with a search. Their patience were rewarded when they recovered 40 sachets filled with methamphetamine and a small quantity of mandrax tablets. They detained a 29-year-old man for the possession of drugs.
Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Wynberg and Villiersdorp Magistrates’ Courts on the mentioned charges.
