Members of Operation Vala Umgodi received intelligence about a truck delivering drugs from Gauteng to Western Cape Province through the N1 National Road route. The Proactive team operationalised the intelligence, and the White Isuzu horse-and-trailer was pulled over outside Kroonstad.
The police conducted a search and found 26 sealed boxes in different compartments of the truck. Members opened the boxes in the presence of the driver and crew and 4 590 packaged KHAT plant, also known as Bushman’s tea, was found. The drug was later weighed at 92.40 kilograms. The street value of the drug seized is estimated at R275 400.00.
A case docket of Dealing in drugs was opened at Kroonstad police station. Crime scene experts also arrived and processed the evidence. The two suspects aged 42 and 49 were detained in police custody, and they will appear in Kroonstad Magistrate’s Court soon.
