The Ilembe District Intelligence led multi-disciplinary operation conducted by the Police resulted in the arrest of a 34-year-old male suspect on Wednesday, 12 March 2025. The suspect is linked to several business robberies and armed robberies within the Umhlali Policing Precinct.
Police diligently tracked the suspect to a location in the Hlalangenkani area of Sea Cow Lake, where he was apprehended. Upon his arrest, the following items were seized: one illegal firearm with the serial number obliterated, three blank guns, and five live rounds of ammunition. Additionally, multiple tools believed to be used in the commission of the robberies were recovered.
Following a thorough investigation and intelligence gathering, Police conducted interviews with the suspect, leading them to discover an “operational team” in Newlands, where they recovered tyres and parts associated with a truck hijacking. Further inquiries revealed that the vehicle utilized in the Umhlali armed robbery and subsequent truck hijacking had been located in the Amazimtoti area. This vehicle was later recovered by the involved parties.
The suspect has been charged with the following offenses:
– Count One: Possession of an unlicensed firearm
– Count Two: Unlawful possession of live rounds of ammunition
– Count Three: Business robbery
The suspect is scheduled to appear in the KwaDukuza Magistrates Court in due course.
