The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) Tactical Unit made a significant arrest on Friday,31 January 2025, after receiving information about a suspect in possession of an illegal firearm.
The suspect, an African male, was found at an address in Winterveld and was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, as well as for contravening his bail condition, as he was out on bail for a murder case.
Upon searching the suspect’s address, officers recovered a 9mm Makarov Russia pistol with the serial number filed off, along with two rounds of ammunition. The suspect is believed to be involved in online robberies (cybercrime), including selling cars on Facebook. He is currently detained at a local police station and will appear in court soon.
In a separate incident, The Tshwane Metro Police Department Tactical Unit has successfully recovered three stolen vehicles, working on a tip-off from a tracker company.
Two of the vehicles were recovered in Atteridgeville, west of Pretoria, while the third vehicle was recovered in Mamelodi.
Tactical Unit Members received a call from the tracker company regarding the high-jacked cars, which led to the successful recovery of the stolen vehicles.
The TMPD continues to work closely with other stakeholders and the community to ensure public safety and prevent crime.
