the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Taxi Task Team in conjunction with Gauteng Traffic and South African Police Services, impounded sixteen (16) minibus taxis for failing to meet the requirements of the National Road Traffic Act 93/1996 in the Katlehong area.
While conducting law enforcement duties on Masakhane Street, Officers managed to stop minibus taxis operating for reward as public transport, were inspections were conducted. During the operation, Officers found the said vehicles operating without license disc, making use of wrong permits and no operator cards, while the overall conditions of the vehicles failed to meet the requirements of the National Road Traffic Act of 93/1996.
Officers immediately impounded the sixteen (16) minibus taxis that was taken to Benoni Provincial Pound.
The EMPD appeals to all operators, to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy while operating as public transport
and scholar transport in the City of Ekurhuleni as failure to comply will result in their vehicles been impounded.
The operation seeks to address compliance and to ensure the safety of commuters and school children making use of scholar transport.
