A 54-year-old Chatsworth – KZN man who was arrested by Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) on Thursday (6/02/2025) has been remanded in custody by the Verulam Magistrates Court pending an Identity Parade.
The suspect is charged for Theft of Cash & other valuables after he drove off leaving a 66-year-old Isipingo – KZN grandmother stranded at a garage when she got off his vehicle to freshen up. The suspect gambled the money she had withdrawn with her SASSA card at Galleria Mall in Amazamtoti on the same day. He bag was late recovered in the vicinity of Sibaya Casino.
When arrested at his home in Montford – Chatsworth, the man informed Reaction Officers that he had met the pensioner on a dating site called Badoo. He had decided to abandon her when she complained about her financial status & then demanded monies after they had engaged in sexual intercourse at the Hazelmere Dam.
The suspect will appear in the Verulam Magistrates Court on February 17, 2025 for a Formal Bail Application.
