Efforts to fight crime and reduce serious and violent crime in the Cape Metropole yielded success on Tuesday, 25 February 2025, when police members arrested suspects for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Members of the Maitland Flying Squad and Law Enforcement responded to a complaint of two persons who are standing at a fuel station in Woodstock with firearms in their possession. Upon arrival at the fuel station the members spotted the two identified suspects and searched them. They were found in possession of two 9mm pistols with ammunition. They could not produce firearm licenses or permits and were arrested.
The suspects aged 21 and 23 face charges in relation to the Firearms Control Act and will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 27 February 2025, on the mentioned charges.
In an unrelated matter, members of the Milnerton Crime Prevention Unit arrested three males and a female when they found a firearm in the informal dwelling they were in. The members followed up information in Nobom Street, Du Noon about possible suspects in a murder case which occurred in January 2025, when they searched the premises. A 9mm pistol with ammunition was confiscated. They face charges for the possession of a unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The suspects aged between 22 and 34 will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court once they have been charged.
