As part of continuous and collaborative efforts to stamp the authority of the state, 5 993 actions executed during the high density Operation Shanela in the last seven days led to the arrest of 699 suspects at all the districts in the province. They include the following:
Murder – 06
Rape – 03
Attempted murder – 07
Assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm and common – 117
Dealing in drugs – 08
Illegal dealing in liquor- 31
Possession of drugs – 119
Burglaries at business and residential premises – 20
Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs – 21
Illegal immigrants – 50
Of these arrests, 346 were effected during the detectives’ suspects raiding operations. Still on arrests, a suspect was apprehended for possession of mandrax tablets in Ikageng on Friday, 21 February 2025. The arresting team also confiscated bags of cannabis. In another success in Ikageng, a suspect was held for unlawful possession of firearm and mandrax tablets. Moreover, four illegal liquor outlets were shut down and liquor confiscated in the area.
The operations also led to searching of 327 premises, 1 606 persons and 742 vehicles. The undermentioned items were confiscated during the operations:
Liquor
Tobacco products
a variety of drugs
five firearms
Two vehicles.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General Patrick Asaneng welcomed the successes achieved and encouraged law enforcement agencies to continuously work together to ensure community safety.
