We as the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) have received several complaints about spikes that are placed on the roads, targeting road users to rob them of their belongings.
This comes after recent reports of twelve (12) vehicles that were damaged due to spikes on the N12 direction east, just at the Edenvale off ramp. Fortunately all the victims are safe.
The routes identified as the hotspots include the R562, Olifantsfontein road, the N3 in Leondale on Barry Marais Road and the N17 between Rondebult and Heidelberg roads.
The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) advises motorists not to stop when they’ve hit a spike or get a tyre puncture, especially at night. Continue to drive slowly to the nearest garage or police station.
The department will continue to have high police visibility around the hotspots, and those found placing objects to endanger the lives of motorists will face jail time.
