Officers though the Department of Education, partnered in this joint venture and operation as part of safety in schools in the City of Ekurhuleni. As schools are back in full swing for 2025, it has become the hub for criminals to recruit their victims to carry out unlawful activities by using learners to sell their illicit substance in schools.
Gangsterism is also one of the major problems faced at schools across the City of Ekurhuleni, EMPD K9 Unit with their Dogs, visited Sir Pierre Van Ryneveld High to ensure illicit substances are kept away from the school premises and their learners. The K9 dog uncovered illicit substance and dangerous weapons.
Officers confiscated two Knives, four Ziplock of Cannabis (Dagga), three Vapes, one lighter, one box of matches and Rizzla paper.
The EMPD commands partnership with other law enforcement agencies to ensure safety in schools and wishes to encourage parents to make sure they check their children’s school bags every day.
