Gauteng Police arrested fourteen illegal immigrants who are also suspected to be illegal miners in Daveyton on Wednesday, 08 January 2025, as part of Operation Vala Umgodi. During the operation police confiscated tools that are used for illegal mining, which includes the following:
– 19 X pendukas
– 10 X motors
– 215 X Iron balls
– 4 X generators
The operation continued on Sunday, 12 January 2025, at Harry Gwala Informal Settlement in Actonville, Ekurhuleni District, where police conducted a search with the aim of curbing illicit mining. While searching the area, the police recovered explosives, which are:
– 100 X meters of Detonating Cord;
– 5 X Carmex Connector Capped Fuses;
– 12 (3/4) X Superpower 90 Blasting Cartridges.
Police in Gauteng will continue with Operation Vala Umgodi until illegal mining activities are brought to its minimal.
