On Tuesday, 07 January 2025, Dawnpark Police were busy performing their duties, they then receive a complaint of the foreign nationals who were terrorizing the community of Lindelani Informal Settlement.
The Police called for backup. Members from SAPS Public order Policing, EMPD and Security guards arrived. The community members showed the Police the direction where the suspects went, where they were busy with illegal mining.
When the suspects saw the Police and other and other members from law enforcement agencies, they started shooting at the Police while running away, then the police retaliated. The Police chased them on foot and managed to arrest five (05 )of them and recovered two ( 02 ) firearms, One with serial number filled off and the other had serial number, as well as 12 ammunition. No one sustained injuries
Ekurhuleni District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole applauded the members’ swift response in order to address the scourge of illegal mining and proliferation of unlicensed firearms in the District.
