As part of its ongoing commitment to fostering partnerships for community safety, Mi7 National Group has donated R650,000 worth of specialized hydraulic rescue equipment to the Msunduzi Fire Department.
The equipment, commonly referred to as the “Jaws of Life,” includes hydraulic spreaders, hydraulic cutters, and hydraulic rams, tools essential for extricating entrapped victims during motor vehicle accidents. Additionally, a set of specialized vehicle stabilization equipment, crucial for securing vehicles before rescue operations, was also donated.
The items were officially handed over during a ceremony held yesterday at the Pietermaritzburg Fire Station, attended by Mi7 leadership and city officials. This gesture underscores Mi7 National Group’s dedication to strengthening collaborations with critical emergency services, ensuring enhanced community safety.
“This donation will have a significant impact on the Msunduzi Fire Department’s ability to respond to road collisions and other emergencies more effectively. With road collisions being a frequent occurrence in and around the city-particularly during the busy festive season-this equipment will play a vital role in saving lives when every second counts,” said Mi7 National Group CEO, Shadrach Karien.
The festive season brings increased road activity, heightening the need for robust emergency response capabilities.
Mi7 National Group’s donation is one of several initiatives aimed at bolstering community safety during this period. The company has also added another Advanced Life Support (ALS) crew to Pietermaritzburg to address medical emergencies more efficiently. In addition, Mi7 has deployed its dedicated MTB Unit, a team of bicycle patrollers, in the Pietermaritzburg CBD to enhance visibility and provide quick responses to incidents in the bustling city center.
