A multi-disciplinary crime intelligence driven operation on Tuesday, 03 December 2024 led to the arrest of three suspected illegal money lenders in Brandvlei in the Namakwa District.
The team, comprising of National Credit Regulators, South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), Kimberley Commercial Crime, Calvinia Detectives, Calvinia Vispol, Springbok Public Order Police, Springbok K9 Unit, Brandvlei Vispol and Namakwa District Crime Intelligence, executed the take down operation, dubbed NWO ZAK in Brandvlei.
The take down actions were executed at three identified premises, resulting in the arrest of two male suspects, aged 52 and 58, and a female suspect, aged 26.
A substantial amount of cash, loan registers, EFT machines, identity documents, easy pay cards and bank cards were seized.
Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola commended all role players for their swift response and thorough investigation. She reiterated that with more boots on the ground, the SAPS are ready and committed to address economic related crimes during the festive season and beyond.
