The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi appeals to community members to prioritise their safety when rendering assistance to stranded people especially at night.
What was supposed to be a good gesture to people who were thought to be in need of assistance turned to be a deadly when the good Samaritans were shot at.
According to information, the siblings were driving on the R40 road near the Nature Reserve when they allegedly noticed a vehicle known to them parked next to the road on Sunday, 03 November 2024 at about 02:20.
The siblings stopped with the intention of rendering assistance. Immediately after they stopped, gunshots were discharged from the stationery vehicle. The driver was shot on the lower body whilst his brother was shot on his back. The assailant approached the victims. They were robbed of one firearm.
After the shooting and robbery, one of the victims managed to drive to the hospital for medical attention.
One of the victims succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
