Police in OR Tambo District intensified their operations on the ground aimed at recovering unlicensed/prohibited firearms in the hands of criminals.
Flagstaff Crime prevention members received information about a 38-year-old male suspect who is in possession of an unlicensed firearm. Police recovered the firearm (9mm) with live ammunition, and the serial number was erased. The suspect appeared at Flagstaff magistrate court on Tuesday, 19 November 2024, and the case was postponed to Tuesday, 26 November 2024, for a formal bail application, and the suspect remained in custody
In a separate incident, Port St Johns in Swazini locality TRT, NIU, and Vispol members recovered a pellet rifle and 9mm with live rounds of ammunition from a male suspect (35). Police arrested the suspect for unlawful possession of firearm and live ammunition. He will appear at Port St Johns magistrate court tomorrow, 21 November 2024.
