Shout out to our Fidelity SIU and all other role players including the SAPS Bomb Squad on the arrest of a suspect on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.
On Wednesday, members conducted an operation in Hillcrest targeting a known local dealer suspected of possessing an unlicensed firearm. Acting on information from an informant, the team located the suspect in his bedroom. A search led to the seizure of a 38 special revolver with the serial number filed off, along with 9 live rounds concealed in a plastic bag.
In a separate tactical operation in Hillcrest, the team conducted this based on intelligence about a foreign national in possession of ammunition and potentially linked to ISIS, a 44-year-old Tunisian male national, was found at his premises. During the search, 24 9mm live rounds and 18 5.56 rounds were recovered. The suspect failed to account for the ammunition and was found to be in violation of the Immigration Act.
He was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of ammunition and contravention of the Immigration Act.
