Dedicated police members responded to information and recovered six firearms and ammunition in isolated incidents on Thursday 31 October 2024 which resulted in the detention of six suspects.
Darling police responded to a complaint of a suspect who robbed a victim during a house robbery. All available resources were mobilised in an attempt to trace the suspect during a focussed tracing operation. Their persistence were rewarded when they located the suspect at an address in Cibidium Street where he was hiding under a bed. The members searched him and recovered a 9mm pistol with ammunition. They detained the 42-year-old male suspect for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as house robbery.
In an unrelated incident Mitchells Plain police followed up on information of a location where rifles are kept. Their investigation led them to a premises in Broadway Street where they confiscated five hunting rifles. They detained three males for the unlawful possession of firearms.
The suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Malmesbury and Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ courts on the mentioned charges.
