The SAPS Provincial Second Hand Goods office, the Provincial Essential Infrastructure Task Team (EITT) in conjunction with Eskom, Telkom and Transnet recently conducted compliance inspections at scrap metal dealers in Douglas in the Pixley Ka Seme District.
The multi-disciplinary compliance inspections focused on illicit metals, contrabands, stolen cables, batteries, concealed business activities and combating transit crimes.
The team arrested a 46-year-old male suspect for possession of suspected stolen property and confiscated Transnet feeder copper cables valued at approximately R21 500.00.
A written warning was issued to the dealer for contravention of the Second-Hand Goods Act 6 of 2009.
In an effort to create awareness amongst the dealers and the community at large, the team distributed crime awareness pamphlets pertaining to dealing and possession of stolen goods.
