Vigilant PT Alarms Tactical unit south members who were on patrol in the Merebank area were quick to spot an attempted hijacking in progress and swiftly intervened.
The two suspects fled when they spotted the PT Alarms Tactical officers approaching. The suspects beat a hasty retreat into the Wentworth flats vicinity and failed to take the vehicle but managed to grab the driver’s cellphone.
It was established that the suspects ordered for an Uber, then decided to hijack and rob the driver.
Fortunately, nobody was harmed and the weapon, a knife, was recovered by the Tactical unit. The driver was taken to Wentworth SAPS and the weapon was handed over to the authorities.
The driver was traumatized and declined to register a case.
