Four homes extensively damaged after a tree collapsed in Canelands

Four informal homes were extensively damaged after a tree collapsed at the Canelands Informal Settlement on New Glasgow Road in Canelands – KZN.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to the scene. On arrival, Reaction Officers discovered that the large tree had crushed four wood and iron homes.

A 35 year old female was in one of the houses at the time but she managed to escape without injury. The three other homes were vacant.

Root rot is suspected to be the cause of the collapse, but this is yet to be confirmed.
