Vala Umgodi Operations continues to address illicit mining activities in Gauteng province

The concerted efforts of the South African Police Service in Ekurhuleni District jointly with other law enforcement agencies had on Monday, 05 August 2024 complied with the Mining Act for the process of rehabilitation of the land. The Teams managed to put 37 suspects behind bars. Among others, five were arrested for illegal mining act 20 of 1991 and 32 for contravention of the Immigration Act.

The following items were seized from illegal mining: knee cap covers, bags of Gold bearing soil, motto, generators, phendukas, Stone crushing machine, oxygen cylinder, spades, pik, steel pots, chains, steel balls, wheel barrows, gambling machine and various assorted liquor.

Ekurhuleni District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole praised the joint efforts by the teams involved that led to the arrest and confiscation of illegal mining equipment.
