Police rescued a Chinese National, which was kidnapped at King Williams Town last Saturday, 27 July 2024, and arrested three suspects aged between 28 and 36 years in the early hours of today, 01 August 2024.
Members attached to East London Detectives, K9 together with private security officials operationalized and followed the information that led them to a house of a taxi owner in Palana Location, Mooiplaas outside East London. When police approached the house, they tactically entered, and a Chinese national that was kidnapped at King Williams Town on Saturday, was found in the house unharmed.
During his kidnapping, a ransom of R350 000 was demanded and paid by the victim’s brother. The victim’s brother was also kidnapped and has not yet been found or released. Police investigation is underway and more suspects are imminent. Upon searching, they recovered a shotgun, eleven (11) boxes of ammunition in different calibres, a safe and suspected stolen property.
The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli has commended the members for arresting the suspects within a week after the incident occurred and that the victim is rescued.
“As we continue to mitigate cases of kidnapping, swift arrests of perpetrators is sending a message that the Police are determined to harshly deal with this scourge,” said Lieutenant General Mene.
The trio is charged for kidnapping, possession of unlicensed firearm and several ammunition and possession of suspected stolen property. They will appear at East London Magistrate court soon.
