Two men shot in unprovoked attack in Canelands

One person was killed and a second individual seriously injured after they were shot during an unprovoked attack in Canelands – KZN.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out the scene at approximately 20:28. On arrival, Reaction Officers discovered a male believed to be in his forties lying in the ground (picture 1). He was bleeding from a gunshot wound to his eye. He was expedited privately to hospital.

While attending to the scene, RUSA Members were informed by the public that a second male was shot and lying in a pathway in the informal settlement approximately 300 metres away. Officers proceeded to the location and located the victim’s lifeless body. He was shot in the head.

His girlfriend informed Officers that they were walking along the pathway when she heard a gunshot. Her boyfriend then collapsed. She did not notice the suspect. It was confirmed that both victims had no relation to each other and were still in possession of their valuables.

The motive for the shooting has not been established.
