Between the days of Monday 15 and Friday 19 July 2024 from 08:00, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Social Crime Prevention Unit (SCPU)Officers, continued to engage learners on scholar patrol and child in traffic training in the Daveyton, Brakpan and Duduza areas.
Road traffic safety plays a major role in the livelihoods of communities and their safety on public roads. Officers took the time to share knowledge, on the pillars of road safety at schools, to promote pedestrian safety. Officers engaged scholar transport driver, on maintaining a safe following distance, ensuring driver and vehicle fitness, avoiding an overload plus, adhering to the speed limits.
Learners were advised to walk on the right-hand side of the road, facing oncoming traffic on the pavement, always to wear bright clothes and to make use of the pedestrian crossing, when crossing the roadway. The little ones were treated to a fun filled day of dancing and singing songs, to memorize the colours of the road traffic signal (Robot).
All road users, have a responsibility to their safety being a driver or pedestrian.
