Following an extensive investigation that was launched after the brazen attack on police officers while on duty on 16 July 2024 in Mankweng, 13 foreign national male suspects have been arrested for cases of attempted murder and assault GBH.
The suspects who are aged between 20 and 42 years were all arrested in Unit F, Mankweng by the members of Provincial Organised Crime Unit and Tactical Response Team, during the operation conducted on Tuesday 30 July 2024.
According to the information, the officers were busy with investigation to trace suspects dealing in drugs when they got ambushed by a group of suspects who threw stones and assaulted them.
During the incident, some officers sustained injuries.
They were transported to the hospital for medical treatment. The suspects managed to evade arrest.
They are all expected to appear before Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 31 July 2024 to face charges of attempted murder and assault GBH.
The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned the incident.
“We will not tolerate such brazen acts of violence against our police officers. The suspects will face the full might of the law,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
