The South African Police Service (SAPS) will destroy over 14 000 firearms, firearm parts and ammunition during a destruction process in Vanderbijlpark today.
These firearms, firearm parts and ammunition have been collected during policing operations across the country and subsequently forfeited to the State; others were handed in voluntarily.
The Acting Component Head for Firearm, Liquor and Second-Hand Goods (FLASH), Brigadier Nonhlanhla Skhakhane, is joined by various other senior SAPS management as she officiates over the official firearm destruction process.
This is the first firearm destruction process for the 2024/2025 financial year.
SAPS has since 2019 destroyed 263 545 firearms.
