Beware of Crime Prevention Warden Scammers

The Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr. Jackie Macie has called on applicants to the recently advertised Crime Prevention Wardens (CPWs) posts to be wary of scammers and those who will attempt to solicit money in exchange for the posts

The MEC was reacting to the voicenote that was widely circulated on social media whereby a South African Police Service (SAPS) member in Nkangala Region was warning applicants about a certain individual who has allegedly told some applicants to certify their documents and go to a certain police station for alleged selection process.

“The department will contact all selected and shortlisted candidates through landline telephone numbers. Government jobs, internships, and learnerships are not for sale. We condemn in the strongest possible terms the criminals who at times pretend to be government employees or SAPS members. We therefore appeal to prospective job seekers not to make themselves vulnerable to those opportunistic vultures who take advantage of desperate job seekers,” Macie says.

The posts of the 1200 CPWs were recently in the media on Sunday, 07 July 2024, and the closing date was Friday, 19 July 2024. All applications were done online.

All other processes will unfold in due course.

The MEC has further applauded the SAPS member for blowing the lid on the alleged scammer. He has also encouraged members of the public to report such incidents to the police and to the attention of the department.

Furthermore, the public must also report corruption through the Anti Corruption hotline: 0800 701 701 or Crime stop hotline: 08600 10111.
