The clamp down on illicit drug outlets led to the confiscation of drugs with an estimated street value of R260 000 with the deployment of the Attaqua K9 Unit during focused operations conducted at Oudtshoorn in the Garden Route District.
On Tuesday, 30 July 2024 at about 10:00, K9 members with a trained police dog “Brooke” and Crime Intelligence embarked on an operation at 22nd Avenue, Bongolethu in Oudtshoorn. The members armed with a search warrant proceeded with a search of the residence when the dog reacted positively to a cupboard in the bedroom. The team found a 37mm gas round and 100 gram of tik concealed inside a drawer. Police confiscated the items and arrested a 21-year-old suspect on charges of dealing in drugs and unlawful possession of ammunition.
Later the same day 30 July 2024, the team proceeded to another address in the same vicinity following a tip-off from the public. Upon arrival the trained police dog led the team to the bedroom where 800 gram of tik, 342 mandrax tablets with three crushed mandrax tablets, 11 9mm rounds and nine 7.65mm rounds were found inside a bag hidden in the room. The police arrested two suspects aged 21 and 38 on charges of dealing in drugs as well as unlawful possession of ammunition.
The suspects will appear in court once charged.
Furthermore, earlier this week Garden Route Crime Combatting Team members also conducted crime combatting operations at two premises in George. At Bell Air Street, Borchards the members arrested a 30-year-old woman on a charge of dealing in drugs. The members confiscated 15 bankies tik and small quantities of mandrax tablets. They also arrested two suspects aged 28 and 45 at Pacaltsdorp after 107 mandrax tablets were found in their possession. The suspects are facing charges of possession of drugs and dealing in drugs.
These arrests and confiscations are part of continued efforts by police to rid communities of drugs, firearms and ammunition, in an effort to safeguard the public.
