The body of a 62 year old man who drowned after he was swept into a river while intoxicated was recovered in Ogunjini – KZN.
A resident contacted the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Operations Centre requesting assistance to recover the man’s body from the river. Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and the RUSA R44 Helicopter took off to provide aerial support. On arrival, it was established that residents entered the water and recovered the body prior to the arrival of First Responders.
It was alleged that the deceased attended a party in the area last night (Sunday). He was intoxicated and returning to his residence with a friend. They attempted crossing the river but the elderly male was swept away. His friend sought assistance from the community to locate the man but they were unsuccessful due to poor lighting. They returned this morning and discovered him floating in the river.
