Two wanted suspects nabbed for business robbery and one for possession of ammunition, three firearms recovered

A crime intelligence driven operation has yielded positive results when two wanted suspects were arrested for business robbery and one for possession of ammunition, on Wednesday morning, 08 May 2024.

On Monday 06 of May 2024, four unknown men stormed into a spaza shop in Sweetwaters Location, held customers at gunpoint and forced them to lie down whilst forcing an employee of the spaza shop to open the door. The suspects took cash and some groceries. Swift police action resulted in two of the suspects being arrested not far from the scene, whilst their accomplices managed to fled from the scene of crime.

In the early hours of Wednesday, a crime intelligence driven operation was launched to track the remaining two suspects. Different units were activated which included Plessislaer Anti-Crime Task Team, Umgungundlovu District Task Team, Umgungundlovu Detective Task Team, Crime Intelligence and private security. Intelligence led the team to Imbali Township where the two wanted suspects were traced and arrested for possession of firearms and business robbery. The men were charged and appeared on Wednesday, 08 May 2024 at Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court

Police also arrested another person in Dambuza Location after he was found in possession of ammunition and he will appear in court on Thursday, 09 May 2024 at the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court.

The firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing to ascertain if they were used in the commission of crime especially in and around the Pietermaritzburg area.
