The police arrested 16 illegal immigrants who are suspected to be illegal miners during a disruptive Operation Vala Umgodi that was conducted in Roodepoort and Florida within Johannesburg District on Monday, 20 May 2024.
Police also seized the tools that are used for illegal mining that include the following:
37 Pendukas
8 Stamper pots
13 Stampers
5 Spades
1 Petrol Motor
5 Steel Penduka Stands
2 Dusbins
542 Steel balls
2 Filter pots
11 Plastic basens
1 25kg bag of sand
Three more suspects were arrested for dealing in liquor without license and possession of stolen cable.
Gauteng police will continue with the disruptive Operation Vala Umgodi in all the districts across the province.
