Over 400 suspects nabbed and six illegal firearms recovered during weekly Operation Shanela Kukula

The Police in Limpopo have continued their successful efforts in combating crime through weekly high-density Operation Shanela “Kukula”, resulting in numerous arrests. The operation conducted between 13 May and 19 May 2024, led to the arrest of 411 suspects for various serious and violent crimes, including murder, attempted murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, car-jacking, attempted robbery, rape, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, possession of illicit cigarettes and drugs. The operation also saw the seizure of six firearms, 164 of various assorted rounds of ammunition, 160,214kg of dagga, different other type of drugs, three stolen vehicles and other illegal items.

The operation has involved high-density patrols and actions, with SAPS collaborating with various specialized units such as Traffic and South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and community structures to enhance its effectiveness.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the success of Operation Kukula, highlighting the importance of cooperation between law enforcement, private sector, and local communities in achieving these successes.

The high density operation continues to make waves in all five districts of the province.
