Arrests for bribery and corruption in the Thembisa area

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Thembisa Precinct Officers, arrested two undocumented persons plus one suspect, for bribery in the Thembisa area.

During the Law Enforcement, as Officers were conducting stop and search on Andrew Mapheto drive near Endulweni fire station, they stopped a silver Toyota light delivery vehicle (LDV) with three male occupants. The driving licence, was requested from the driver and it was produced. The Officers, continued with their duties and asked the two passengers, for their valid identification documents.

The pair, failed to produce and Officers, explained to them that, since they do not have any means of identity documents, they could be jailed and the driver, claimed that the twosome, do have valid passports and they were at home. The EMPD Officers, requested the driver, to go and fetch the official documents and bring them over, at the Thembisa South police station. It is alleged that, when the driver came back, he came with R600 in cash and asked the Officers, to look the other way and free the duo, in exchange for cash.

The driver, was immediately handcuffed and charged with bribery, together with the two undocumented foreign nationals. The lawbreakers, who are between the ages of 27 and 33, are expected to appear, at the Thembisa Magistrate’s Court soon. The Immigrations office, was notified, the seized R600 cash was booked under the SAP13, and their confiscated Toyota LDV, was taken to the EMPD Thembisa Precinct, for safekeeping.
