Gqeberha K9 and Flying Squad arrested a male and confiscated abalone after a high speed chase on the M4, North End on Saturday, 27 January 2024.
It is alleged that on the abovementioned date at approximately 07:00, Gqeberha K9 members received information of a white VW Polo transporting abalone. While traveling on the M4, the members spotted the vehicle and during an attempt to stop the vehicle, the driver sped off on N2 towards Algoa Park. During the pursuit the driver attempted to force the SAPS vehicle off the road, and while speeding off he threw bags out of the vehicle containing abalone and lost control of the vehicle and drove into the barriers. The vehicle went on standstill and Police recovered another bag of abalone and was confiscated.
A total of 366 unit of abalone was confiscated and the suspect was arrested for contravention of the Marine Living Resource Act, 19 of 1998 Regulation 36 sub sect 1 – illegal possession of abalone and is expected to appear in the Gqeberha magistrate court on Monday, 29 January 2024.
