Operation “Vala Umgodi” continues to close the net on illicit mining activities in the Namakwa District

The police “Vala Umgodi” illicit mining operations in the Northern Cape continues to close the net on illicit mining activities.

The police actions that commenced on Friday, 19 January 2024 till Sunday, 21 January 2024, included stop and searches, the tracking of undocumented immigrants, combating transit crimes and conducting routine vehicle inspections.

The police arrested ten (10) suspect for contravention of the Immigration Act and confiscated numerous illicit mining equipment, including generators, bags with gravel, sieves, shovels, hand hammers, drills and extension cords.

The suspects will appear in the Port Nolloth Magistrate Court soon

Numerous routine patrols were conducted during which fines valued at R2 550-00 were issued for traffic violations.

The police will continue unabatedly to combat illicit mining activities and request the public to report any criminality to the police.
