Police recover high-calibre firearms and arrest a man who is suspected of being involved in aggravated robberies

Police from Gauteng Organised Crime Investigation Unit arrested one suspect who was found with four firearms, including an AK-47 rifle that are suspected to be used for the commission of serious and violent crimes. The 41-year-old suspect was arrested in White City, Soweto, on Thursday 21 December 2023 after police conducted a search in his room.

Police received information about a man who is in possession of unlicensed firearms and suspected to be involved in aggravated robberies that include cash-in-transit heists.

Police pounced on the suspect’s house and found him in possession of an AK-47 rifle, three pistols, firearms magazines and scores of ammunition.

The suspect was arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms while the weapons will be sent for ballistic analysis to determine whether they have been used in the commission of crimes.
