Joint operation to curb stock theft in Beaufort West ensures that two suspects are behind bars

Endeavours to curb stock theft in and around Beaufort West through joint operations between the Beaufort West Stock Theft and Endangered Species Section, Central Karoo K9 and Rural Flying Squad over the past weekend yielded success. The operations ensured that two suspects found themselves behind bars after carcasses and stolen livestock were found in their possession.

On Friday, 27 October 2023 the team responded to information of possible stock theft at a farm near the N1 when they found a man with five sheep. He was arrested on a charge of stock theft. The following day the team conducted patrols along the N1 when they noticed a suspicious looking vehicle. The vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, was searched and five carcasses were found inside. Police confiscated the carcasses and arrested the driver on a charge of possession of stolen property. Investigation took police to a nearby farm where the livestock was stolen earlier.

The suspects, aged 25 and 48, remains in police custody and are scheduled to appear in the Beaufort West Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 30 October 2023 on charges of stock theft.
