The swift response by members of the police has led to the arrest of eight suspects and recovery of five firearms and explosives in different incidents.
On 30 August 2023, the team consisting of members from Tactical Responde Team, Highway Patrol and Johannesburg K9 operationilised intelligence information about a group of suspects in Phomolong section, Tembisa who reportedly robbed a courier vehicle in klipfontein.
The operational team strategically approached the identified address and seven suspects were arrested. Three vehicles used in the commission of crime were also recovered including the firearms, and the goods suspected to be robbed from the courier vehicle.
On another separate incident, the members of Highway Patrol recovered explosives and arrested one suspect on 30 August 2023 at Diepkloof.
The members followed up on information which led them to a house in Diepkloof whereby explosives and ammunition were recovered. The suspect will appear in court soon on charges of possession of explosives and ammunition.
The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela has applauded the members for the arrests and recovery of firearms and explosives. He further assured the community of Gauteng that the police will continue working tirelessly in ensuring that those who break the law are arrested and face the full might of the law. The police investigation continues.
