Lephalale police nab two suspects for theft and possession of stolen diesel at the power station

The Police in Lephalale through intelligence driven operation have arrested two male suspects aged between 32 and 57 years old for theft and possession of suspected stolen goods on Monday 28 August 2023 in Lephalale.

It is reported that members of the Crime Intelligence and K9 Units with the Matimba Security Service have conducted an operation following the information received from the source about the employee of a company subcontracted to Eskom at Matimba Power Station a 32-year-old male stealing diesel from the Power Station for his benefits.

The team reacted swiftly to the information whereby the suspect was traced.He was tracked subsequently and accosted while driving a Grader machine out of the Power Station into the nearby bush veld whereby he drained the diesel into 25 litter containers and loaded them into motor vehicle a white Toyota Hilux which was found parked in the veld with one occupant a 57-year-old male.

The Police have recovered diesel worth R9 000.00 and seized the vehicle with estimated value of R20 000.00 and confiscated 6x 25 litter, 1x 20 litter and 210 litter drum full of diesel which were found hidden in the bush.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in LImpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe applauded the Team for their vigilance and dedication that lead to the arrest and recovery of dissel.

The Suspects are expected to appear before Lephalale Magistrate’s Court Wednesday 30 August 2023 facing charges of theft and possession of suspected stolen diesel.
